The World Marathon Championships were held in Portugal on the 20th of September 2009. I competed with my paddling partner Mark Rantall in the Open Men’s K2 after qualifying by winning the National Championships in Qld. Conditions OS were a lot hotter than the winter we had just come out of but made for enjoyable training. We arrived 10 days prior to prepare and training went well.
Race Day
Thirty crews qualified for the race and we drew the far outside lane. We had a great start and after 40 double strokes we were leading. We then tried to get a gap so that we could cut across to the faster crews who were coming throug
